Waldorf-Inspired Mermaid Doll PDF Pattern
$6.00

Picture
Who doesn’t love a mermaid? You'll love making this one with the clearest, easiest Waldorf doll instructions you'll find anywhere.

This design stitches up quickly as a simple doll for very young children. For an older child, have fun with novelty yarn hair or other embellishments.

The ponytail hair style combines the long, flowing hair that children love, with ultra-easy, no-crochet construction. Instructions for a clever and low-cost (or no-cost!) adjustable hair loom are also included.

Finished doll is approximately 12 inches tall.

Tutorial-style pattern is lavishly illustrated with large color photos, showing you all the step-by-step details. Lots of tips from my years of doll-making experience will help you make it fast and fun.

Skill level: basic sewing skills.

Pattern includes stitching guides for 3 tail fin variations.

Best fabric choices: Use batik print cotton in watery colors for the mermaid’s tail and halter top. Silk will create a wonderfully shimmery effect, but may be less durable than cotton.

Materials required:
  • Un-spun wool batting for stuffing.
  • 2-inch wide tubular cotton gauze (7 inches for each head).
  • 1/4 yard cotton interlock knit in skin-tone of your choice (makes several dolls).
  • Embroidery floss - red plus your choice of eye color (blue/black/brown/green).
  • Thread to match doll skin fabric.
  • Strong cotton craft thread.
  • Red beeswax crayon for rosy cheeks.
  • Wool or cotton yarn for hair (or use a fun novelty yarn).
  • For tail and halter top, 1/4 yard of fabric (will make several dolls).
  • 1/4-inch wide ribbon for halter top (about 9 inches).
  • Perle cotton or embroidery floss for halter straps.

A 5-inch doll needle is recommended for embroidering the face.
